On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by Muslim terrorists. Four commercial jets fully loaded with fuel were hijacked. Their targets, the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and our nation’s Capitol building, filled with senators and congressmen.
Three of the jets hit their targets, but not the one aimed at the Capitol. On United Airlines flight 93, the passengers became aware of the coordinated attacks taking place. They rose up and attempted to regain control of the plane. Ultimately, the terrorists were forced to crash the plane in an empty field in Western Pennsylvania, killing the 44 souls aboard but saving the lives of hundreds in Washington. Todd Beamer, a Christian, was one of those who led the fight against the terrorists. His last words were, “Let’s pray…let’s roll”! Was Todd’s life “successful” or “significant”? William Borden, born a millionaire-heir to a huge fortune, gave it all away to become a missionary. Throughout college he started ministries and reached many for Christ. Heading to the mission field, he died only months into his work. Others volunteered for missions when they heard of his death! Was his life “successful” or “significant”? What about the small-church pastor who faithfully prepares messages and ministers to his flock day and night? His name will never make headlines on earth yet, as he passes into glory, lives have been changed for eternity! How about you and I? Are we living our lives for earthly “success” or eternal “significance”? August happenings: Melva and I try to take some time off in August each year while Rich and Shelba Townsend take our place. This year the Lord allowed us wonderful opportunities to share even during the break. What a privilege it is to serve our risen Savior! Upcoming: Please pray as we share in Tin Cup CO (Sept. 7), New Song Church in Gunnison (Sept. 21), and Pitkin CO (Sept. 28), as well as 2 Celebrations of Life and our Saturday Night Worship services. 1st Responder New Testaments and Devotionals: The New Life Riders, a Christian Motorcycle Club in New Jersey, visits fire and police stations every Sept 11 to pray and give out New Testaments. The Pagosa Bible Church in Pagosa Springs CO held a 1st Responders Appreciation Dinner and gave away New Testaments and Devotionals. A chaplain in Florida just requested more copies. Praise the Lord! Family: Steve, Tim and I are planning a father-son trip to the Grand Canyon. Joy and Stephen, along with Hannah and Bethan, are settling into their new home in London. Hannah has been accepted into a school for drama and the arts! All the grandchildren are returning to school. Please pray the Lord blesses and protects them as they learn. Finances: By God’s grace and your faithful support, every bill continues to be paid, and we can address each new opportunity the Lord brings us. Thank You! Our goal is to use the resources the Lord entrusts to us for His glory! Prayer Requests: Someone recently asked if Melva and I ever have problems. Yes, of course we do. Sometimes we hesitate to mention them because we know many of you have more serious ones. Still, since we have been encouraged to share, here they are:
In some respects, this has been one of the most “significant” times in our 56 years of ministry. Your prayers and support have had a major impact! Please keep them coming. Thank You! By His grace and to His glory, Rick and Melva Comments are closed.
