Rick was born May 14, 1949 in Denver, Colorado. He spent some time in Mississippi as a child, then the rest of his childhood in the Denver area. Rick graduated from Littleton High School in 1967. Immediately upon graduation, he left for the mountains to work for the Forest Service. He has stayed in the mountains since then except to minister and study.

Master of Divinity Equivalency from Denver Seminary and is working on his Doctor of Ministry degree at Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY
